Winback Tecar Therapy

An energy technology delivered by physiotherapists that promotes faster functional recovery at ALO Physiotherapy.

WINBACK energy (high frequency current) is a very popular with top level sports people and many other patients at ALO Physiotherapy due to its therapeutic benefits.

André has worked closely the the Winback Tecar team for several years ensuring the highest levels of knowledge and skill in treating a wide range of conditions. André was the first Physiotherapist to bring Winback Tecar equipment to the UK and is therefore the preferred partner of Winback Tecar within the UK.

The key benefits of Tecar are that it:

  • Accelerates pain reduction in comparison to other electrotherapies such as ultra-sound
  • Accelerates the natural healing mechanisms of the body, thereby reducing recovery time

What is WINBACK energy Technology?

WINBACK energy is a high frequency current oscillating between 300 kHz and 1 MHz. It accelerates “the natural regeneration” of organic tissue. Its low intensity means the energy is completely non-invasive and 100% natural for the human body.

Studies conducted over the last thirty years have shown that its therapeutic effects naturally stimulate tissue regeneration and reduce pain.

What are the advantages for patients?

  • Faster functional recovery. (The beneficial effects are apparent after just a few sessions and improvements can be observed even 24 hours after treatment.)
  • Treatment is painless and relaxing.
  • Treatments are safe and have high therapeutic efficacy.
  • Promotes a sense of well-being, predisposing the subject towards post-treatment physical activity.
  • Faster rehabilitation.

What conditions is it used to treat?

Muscular, joint and lymph problems:

  • Traumatology
  • Rheumatology
  • Sports Physiotherapy

WINBACK energy Is particularly useful for pain relief and anti-inflammatory purposes. It is used to treat acute or chronic conditions in the muscles and joints. The technology helps to break the vicious circle of pain/ inflammation/stiffness, drainage of effusions, improvements in joint mobility and improvement of healing process. Reduction in recovery time, accelerated return to normal activities.

ACCELERATED HEALING 97% EFFECTIVE Winback energy produces a flow of ions with extremely fast electrical oscillations on the cellular level. These oscillations make the plasma membrane permeable, stimulating intra- and extra cellular transfer, making tissues heal faster.

IMMEDIATE AND LASTING RELIEF FROM PAIN 81% EFFECTIVE  Winback energy inhibits the transmission of pain messages for at least 48 hours. This effect is due to the electrical oscillations that interrupt the normal transfer of pain signals (hyperpolarisation, depolarisation). The sensory impulses are interrupted and the patient feels immediate relief.

6X FASTER VASCULARISATION TECAR energy increases the natural resistance of biological tissues, transforming energy into heat (diathermy) which is used by the circulatory system (vascular and lymphatic) to regulate the temperature of the part of the body in question. A localised increase in temperature allows for improved vascularisation of areas with restricted movement (fibrosis, stiffening) and makes movement easier.

2X FASTER REHABILITATION Since 1999, studies have been carried out on high frequency current to allow researchers to confirm the therapeutic effects of a standard frequency: 0.5 MHz with an accepted range between 0.3 MHz and 0.65 MHz. Different devices have been used, all following the rules and principles of TECAR or CET RET.

INDICATIONS For pain relief and anti-inflammatory purposes, in order to break the vicious circle of pain/ inflammation/stiffness, improvements in joint mobility, fibrolytic effects, reducing in bruising,  drainage of effusions, improvement of healing process. Reduction in recovery time, accelerated  return to normal activities.

TRAUMATOLOGY Sprains, fractures and muscle tears. Posttraumatic pain (1 to 3 days exclusively without heat): pain relief, anti-inflammatory and antioedema uses. For chronic post-traumatic syndromes or recurrences: fibrolytic effect, breaking the vicious circle of pain/ inflammation/stiffness and improved mobility.

RHEUMATOLOGY Arthritic complaints: pain relief, deep oedema drainage, improved mobility. Acute and chronic tendinopathy, epicondylitis, neck pain, common acute and chronic pain in the lower back, capsulitis, joint stiffness.

SPORT PHYSIOTHERAPY For recent or long-lasting muscle stiffness, muscle pain, muscular lesions: tensions, sprains, tears, acute and chronic tendinopathy, enthesitis, chondropathy, post-traumatic oedema, muscular fibrosis and plantar fasciitis. Recovery and prevention.

CONTRAINDICATIONS Transplants, pacemakers and artificial organs, pregnancy, bleeding disorders, insensitivity to changes of temperature, burns, cancer, infection, growth cartilage, hypotension, thrombosis, insensitivity to pain.

HUMAN TECAR THERAPY

We are getting excellent results using this novel treatment and are therefore
measuring the outcomes of this therapy within the clinic. Here is some
background information about it:

Background

Tecar therapy is a unique manual therapy which is supported by an innovative
technology which enables treatment of musculoskeletal pathologies. The device
uses capacitive and resistive diathermy to promote the natural physiological
processes of tissue metabolism by transferring energy. It takes advantage of the
capacitor effect to generate deep diathermy.  The system consists of the
“physiological activation” from the internal tissues through three reactions:
microcirculation, vasodilatation and temperature increase.

Evidence

At present, there are several observational studies which have assessed the
impact of this therapy on treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. The largest of
these studies assessed the impact of tecar therapy in 327 subjects with acute
(68) and chronic (259) sports pathologies 1 . Patients were treated for 20 minutes
in 10 sessions over 2 weeks. Pathologies treated included articular (145),
muscular (46) and tendinous (136). Reductions in pain VAS and Steinbroker
Index were found in both acute and chronic conditions. The most marked
reductions in pain were seen in muscular conditions. Several other observational
studies 2,3,4 have also found promising results in treatment of musculoskeletal
conditions in sports populations, however at present there are no published
randomised controlled trials.

Scientific Studies for Tecar Therapy - Winback

Tecar vs. Ultrasound for Treatment of Degenerative Neck Pain

A study at the University of Valencia on degenerative neck pain involving 100 patients was randomised into two groups of Tecar and Ultra-sound. It showed a statistically significant pain reduction in the Tecar group at days 1,4,5,6. In addition, there were greater limitations on flexion, extension and cervical rotation in the Ultrasound group. Therefore, there was a greater need for further physiotherapy support in the Ultrasound group as a result often 2 to 3 times greater than the Tecar group.

Study on Pain Relief and Return to Function in Active Athlete Population

A study of 116 active athletes showed a significant reduction in pain and significant improvement in recovery times when compared to standard recovery protocols, as well as significant improvements in return to function.

Tecar vs. TENS in Phantom Limb Pain

A 40 patient study was randomised into 2 groups of 20. Tecar showed immediate reduction in pain especially where VAS was at 10 pre-treatment. VAS is a pain scale, with 10 being the maximum pain and zero no pain. Tecar showed an earlier relief from pain when compared to TENS reaching earlier statistical significance. Tecartherapy has a therapeutic analgesic effect that is more significant and immediate in short term phantom limb pain when compared to TENS.

Tecar Study in a Single Centre across a Range of Pathologies

A total of 117 patients were treated using Tecar with the following findings summarised as follows:
35 Osteo-Arthritis patients with 29 out of 35 showing good to excellent functional improvements.
24 Spinal Pathologies with 20 out of 24 showing good to excellent functional improvements.
43 Sciatica patients with 20 asymptomatic post the 5th treatment, a further 7 asymptomatic post the 8th treatment and a further 16 showing pain reduction.
15 Herniated Disc patients with 6/15 asymptomatic post 3 weeks and 4/15 showing slight pain.

Tecar in the Treatment of Chronic Osteo-Arthritis in the Elderly

217 OA patients in an open series over a 4 year period with pain and function as the key measures. 85% showed good to excellent overall results and 62% a significant improvement in patients who had chronic issues and were treated with other forms of electrotherapy.
