Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome and Prostatitis (CPPS/CP)

What is it ?

CPPS/CP is a clinical syndrome in males that presents as pain in the pelvic region that can be accompanied by urinary symptoms or sexual dysfunction. This is an extremely common condition, with 35-50% of men experiencing symptoms at some stage in their life. However, there is little awareness around this condition and a taboo around speaking about it.

There are two types:

Chronic bacterial prostatitis:
A mild bacterial infection that can linger for several months. It is more common in older men. Some men can get it if they have had a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
Chronic Prostatitis/ Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome:
This is the most common and shares the same signs as bacterial prostatitis. However, there is no bacteria present.

How we can help:

Assessment:
We work closely with top London consultant Dr Fabio Castiglione to get to the root cause of your problem. This will allow us to accurately diagnose and guide our treatment to ensure it is bespoke to you.
Assessment:
Once you have been accurately diagnosed, treatment can begin. We use a wide variety of treatment techniques. We use a biopsychosocial model when treating this condition. What this means is that we not only address the biological issues associated with the condition, but also the psychological and social issues. Depending on your condition we will tailor your treatment plan to suit your needs. Generally we use a combination of treatment modalities including:
  • Tecar Therapy to promote blood flow, tissue healing and pain reduction
  • Focal Vibration Therapy to stimulate nerves and decrease muscle stiffness
  • Deep EMG therapy for muscle stimulation and pain reduction
  • Exercises specific to your problem to strengthen muscles that may be weak
  • Education about your issue to empower you and to aid self management
  • Manual therapy for tight contracted muscles that may be contributing to the problem
  • Pilates to strengthen and stretch tight muscles
  • Breathing exercises to help with relaxation
  • Massage: internal and external massage can help to alleviate symptoms and relax tight muscles
