Marathon preparation Programme
Have you always wanted to run a marathon, but have no idea where to start?
Perhaps, you’ve ran marathons before but wish to beat your personal best?
If so, we’re offering a brand-new service in the lead up to the London Marathon which will be a preparation programme, spanning across 17 weeks in the lead up to the event. Our programme aims to teach you the most effective ways to run in order to reach maximum levels of performance during the marathon. Whether you are participating in a full or half marathon, your programme is tailored to suit your goals. You don’t have to be an experienced runner to avail of this service, it can be tailored for your needs, even for those who want to start a couch to 5k programme.
Your 17-week preparation will be under guidance and constant monitoring of our physios and running experts.
What you can expect in this programme
Step 1
The first step in getting you ready for your marathon is an assessment. Our expert physios conduct a thorough biomechanical assessment and gait analysis. Using our state-of-the-art VALD equipment, Footscan technology and in-house treadmill and gym, we can screen for injury risk and obtain a baseline strength index along with a comprehensive report of your biomechanics.
From here, your physio will teach you ways to be more efficient, address any biomechanical weakness and possibly recommend for you to have bespoke orthotics made if you are a candidate.
Step 2
After the assessment, your physio will set up a treatment/training plan with you. Depending on your needs, your plan may include weekly physio treatments or sports massages while we build you toward your goal and keep injuries at bay whilst prepping. During your 17 weeks, you will also have progress assessments to ensure you’re on an upward trajectory toward the set goals.
Step 3
Whilst preparing, you will be given the opportunity to join weekly physio-led runs with other members of the programme. During these runs, you’ll enjoy meeting like-minded people of all running levels who also wish to participate in the marathon. You will also have the benefit of your physio imparting his or her running knowledge in these safe weekly prep runs.
Step 4
During the programme, you will be invited to attend running workshops and seminars lead by members of the GB athletics team. They will provide you with keen insights on successful marathon running whilst also giving you the chance to ask questions.
Step 5
As a member of our prep programme, you will have the access to our exclusive members only groups where you can exchange running tips and techniques with the other members of the group. Within this group, your physios and running coaches will also share nutrition information to keep you on top of your plan. You will also have the option to be added to the Strava app so your physiotherapist can track your progress as the marathon approaches.
Step 6
Lastly, as part of this programme you will also receive 1 bonus recovery treatment in the week post-marathon.
This treatment can be whatever your body requires after the run, such as a deep lower limb sports massage to detoxify and soothe any sore muscles.
Please note, as this service is bespoke to each individual, the treatments provided within the 17 week period may differ across members of the programme, based upon the recommendations of our experts.
