NESA Therapy Treatment to help with sleep, stress and chronic pain relief

Harley Street, Central London

ALO Physio proudly provides expert Nesa Therapy treatment in Harley Street, London.

Nesa Therapy Treatment Harley Street

If you’ve been struggling with poor sleep, persistent fatigue, chronic pain, or an overactive bladder, and conventional treatments haven’t given you lasting relief, NESA therapy offers a different approach.

NESA is a non-invasive neuromodulation therapy that works by gently rebalancing your autonomic nervous system the part of your body that controls sleep, pain sensitivity, stress response, bladder function, and energy levels. Using low-frequency microcurrents delivered through soft bands placed on your wrists and ankles, NESA sends precise electrical signals that mirror the body’s own bioelectrical activity, encouraging the nervous system to regulate itself more effectively.

It is painless, deeply relaxing, many patients describe sessions as meditative and requires no medication or injections.

ALO Physiotherapy on Harley Street is one of a small number of specialist clinics in London offering NESA therapy, delivered as part of a comprehensive, personalised treatment programme.

What a Nesa Therapy Treatment Can Help With

Chronic pain and neuropathic pain

NESA helps regulate the way the nervous system processes pain signals, reducing the heightened pain sensitivity that characterises chronic pain conditions. It is particularly effective for neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and chronic musculoskeletal pain that has not fully responded to conventional physiotherapy or medication alone.

Sleep disorders and insomnia

Poor sleep is often rooted in an overactive autonomic nervous system the body stuck in a state of low-level alertness that prevents deep, restorative rest. NESA therapy helps shift the nervous system from a sympathetic (fight-or-flight) to a parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) state, improving sleep onset, sleep depth, and overall sleep efficiency.

Stress, anxiety and burnout

By calming the nervous system’s stress response and improving vagal tone, NESA therapy can reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety and chronic stress, including tension, poor sleep, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. It is increasingly used for people experiencing burnout or long-term stress-related health issues.

Athletic recovery and performance

NESA has been used by elite sports teams, including FC Barcelona players, for post-match recovery, nervous system regulation, and sleep optimisation before and after competitive events. At ALO Physio, we offer NESA as part of our broader athlete performance and recovery programmes.

Overactive bladder and urinary incontinence

The autonomic nervous system plays a central role in bladder control. NESA therapy helps regulate nerve communication between the brain and the bladder, reducing urgency, frequency, and incontinence episodes without medication or surgery. It is suitable for both men and women, and is complementary to pelvic floor physiotherapy.

Other conditions

NESA therapy has shown benefit in a range of other presentations including headaches and migraines, bruxism (teeth grinding), sexual dysfunction, neurological conditions such as tremor and post-stroke recovery, and constipation linked to autonomic dysfunction. Please contact us to discuss whether NESA is appropriate for your specific condition.

What Happens In A Nesa Therapy Session

Before your first session
You’ll have an initial consultation where we discuss your symptoms, medical history, and goals. This allows us to tailor your NESA programme and identify the most appropriate protocol for your condition.

During a session
You’ll be seated or lying comfortably. Soft electrode bands are placed on your wrists and ankles  that’s all. The NESA device then delivers gentle microcurrents at sub-sensory level; you will feel little to nothing during treatment. Sessions typically last 45-60 minutes. Many patients read, rest, or simply unwind during the session.

How many sessions?
A standard course is 10 sessions, typically scheduled twice per week over 4–5 weeks. For longer-standing or more complex conditions, the first week may involve 3–4 sessions to build therapeutic momentum before reducing to twice weekly. Progress is monitored throughout using heart rate variability (HRV) measurements a key biomarker of nervous system balance.

FAQ’s

What is NESA therapy?
NESA therapy is a non-invasive neuromodulation treatment that uses low-frequency microcurrents to rebalance the autonomic nervous system. Delivered through soft electrode bands on the wrists and ankles, it helps regulate sleep, pain, stress, bladder function, and energy levels without medication or injections.
Is NESA therapy available in London?
Yes. ALO Physiotherapy on Harley Street, Central London, is one of a small number of specialist clinics in the UK offering NESA therapy. We provide NESA as part of a personalised treatment programme, combining it with physiotherapy where appropriate.
Does NESA therapy hurt?
No. NESA therapy is completely painless. The microcurrents are delivered at sub-sensory level, meaning most patients feel little to nothing during treatment. Sessions are described by many patients as deeply relaxing and meditative.
Can NESA therapy help with sleep problems?
Yes. NESA is particularly effective for sleep disorders driven by an overactive nervous system, including insomnia, poor sleep quality, and difficulty staying asleep. It offers a drug-free alternative to sleep medication by addressing the neurological root cause rather than the symptom.
Can NESA therapy be combined with physiotherapy?
NESA is not recommended for people with implanted electronic devices (such as pacemakers), active cancer, acute thrombophlebitis, internal bleeding, or significant skin problems on the hands or feet. Vaccinations within four months of treatment are also a contraindication. A full assessment will be carried out before your first session to confirm suitability.
How is NESA different from TENS therapy?
TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) works locally to block pain signals in a specific area and provides temporary relief during use. NESA works systemically, targeting the autonomic nervous system as a whole and is aimed at producing lasting changes in how the nervous system functions, rather than short-term pain masking.
